Remember My Pencil Problem?
Remember I was trying to save my pencils from my trays that were magically disappearing?
Well...Guess who's dancin' now?
Yep. That would be me!
My duct tape pencils made it through the long journey of January!
Sooo...
Look who made NEW Valentine's groups pencils to last the NEW month?
Cupcake Duct Tape.
Thank you, I like them, too!
And plain pink duct tape for my parent helper's table:
For the whole month of January
-yes, I said the WHOLE month-
My pencils made it!!
Without disappearing!!
See them?
They are still in there.
They may have no erasers left, but that just says we were busy little writers!
AND!
I found a new helpful hint about these little guys!
They make good reading tools, keeping the place in reading!
Good little trackers.

So, now I'm convinced.
Want to keep your pencils from disappearing?
Want to keep it cute?
Two little words...
Duct Tape.

I am cracking up! Love the duct tape! Too cute! I actually use strips of it for my personal library books, so I can identify them quickly. I put them on the spines of my books. Now I think I will be moving on to pencils! Thanks for the great tip!

I have a roll of cute argyle duct tape that I got in a school supplies gift basket and I haven't used it yet. I'm totally doing this! I have a new group of students in my room every half hour and my pencils ALWAYS disappear!

I hope you don't think this is a stupid post, but I don't see how the tape keeps the pencils from disappearing. Is it because you can see who has your pencils at the end of class and you collect them? Or is it because the students don't want to take them with the tape on them? I teach high school math and I would go through pencils like candy, so I finally told kids I would not give them a pencil unless I got collateral in return, like a cell phone or ipod or a shoe. It has to be something of worth, or I don't get the pencils back.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your blog!
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI taped my pencils yesterday with penguin duct tape! The kids love the tape, and yes I wondered, too, how the tape keeps them from disappearing. But I discovered it was more about the kids thinking they belonged together or stayed in the room because they were all the same (?) I'm not totally sure, but one thing I really noticed, is that they don't roll onto the floor! Yay! No more rolling pencils that drop of their tables. Thanks for the tip!
I mean drop "off" the tables! Sorry--I've got to proofread when I post! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is the best idea I have ever seen!! Thanks for sharing, I will be doing this in my first grade classroom very soon!!!
