Clutter Free Desk Project

So I'm joining in the fun, for a great project:

Each week, there is a project given by the Clutter-Free Classroom, to help better organize our classrooms, thus helping our teaching lives run smoother!
I have loved these projects, because although I am an organizer, I always learn something new from this very talented & hard working lady!
I love this about her!

This week's project was to work on a clean desk area, or table area where we as teachers sit & do our planning, correcting, or what have you.

I definitely have a desk.  It is my relax area. It's a place I can finally sit down at, in a chair that's not one foot off the ground, & tiny as could be!

The one thing I would like to work on, as silly as it might be to you all, is to keep papers off my calendar here.
The one place I do pile things, is right on top of my calendar.  Which in turn, covers up any important daily task/meeting/activity/planning event, etc. I have so bolded in for that day.
So, often I am lifting piles up to see or remind myself what it is that I am supposed to be doing!
I will have to work on this!

I also enjoy having a desk, because as I do sit & plan, I have my binders at my fingertips right behind me, so often I'll pull & grab from different binders to put together whatever I need to, from a variety of resources.

Another area I use a lot, is my, "Calendar Table" where I check home readers in the morning.
I love this little side table for small go to things, make a quick note to send home, read or work with a child on on one, etc.
All the phonics & decodable readers are here behind me, along with other leveled readers.
I simply spin around in my wonderful cushy chair, and the books are at my fingertips to quickly grab & stuff into reading bags.

My last go-to area, is my larger reading group table.
Here, we do small group instruction, but again, I have it set up where all things are at my fingertips, as I am neutral in the center.
I can simply turn in any direction & reach whatever item/resource I need.

Each of these areas, came together in time, through my own trial and error of what worked for me, and how I wanted it to work for me.
I sometimes step back, take a peek, and ask myself, If I could have this any way I wanted to, what would it be like?
Then, I make it happen, because WHY CAN'T IT BE THE WAY I DREAM IT TO BE?
It can.
You can make any space exactly the way you want it!

Have fun with this task, it can go a long way for us, for planning, prepping, correcting, & simply to have a place of our own to go to.
Make it be what YOU dream it to be!

  4. The picture of your binders made me gasp, that is right gasp. Then I saw the picture of the rolling cart with color drawers (well it looks like 3 of them) and I turned green with envy. The title of your blog is totally deserved. I may have to pin these pics for inspiration this summer.

  5. I recently decided to make my room (like you said "exactly what I dream) slowly more organized. If you have any tips on how you arranged your second table, I would love some help. I saw the shelves and buckets and that is part of what I am thinking. I appreciate the pictures to have as inspiration. Thank you!
