Today I'm linking up with Courtney, over at Swimming into Second!
Her blog was one of the very first blogs I ever started reading!
I adore her!
Courtney, over at Swimming into Second, is hosting:
In my classroom, I invest in A LOT of one thing:
BOOKS!
We read, read, read, and then read some more.
If you can read, you can do any other subject.
My grandmother always said, "If you can read, you can cook."
(I tell my own two boys this all the time)
I say, If you can read, you can do anything you want to do!
Which is why I love that Courtney is doing this linky, because if you let boys choose between a ball or a book, the majority would probably go for the ball.
That's perfectly ok, we are only encouraging interest levels here, of some great reading sources!
Girls...would most likely go for a cute little princess or fairy book.
If it were between a carrot stick & a piece of See's candy, well...Little Miss Organized would have to definitely go for the Sees, and it's not because I could read the ingredients...!!!
Anyhoo, here are the BEST LOVED BOY BOOKS in my classroom:
The Berenstain Bears are filled with character!!
They are a wonderful series, and you know what that means?
Once they're hooked, they will have lots of reading adventures!
They will STAY reading!!

Franklin is also a series, very real with life, and the boys read every one they can get their hands on, also it's a true 2nd grade reading level.

Geronimo. Tougher vocab, but the boys LOVE him!
Not everyone can read Geronimo's yet, because the reading can be a bit tough, but the interest level is HIGH!

All of my 3 children have read this series.
All of my 3 kids have LOVED these books & couldn't put them down.
Not quite sure why, I haven't read them, but I do hear once kids start, they can't finish, until the series is done!

I know there are many great books, as well as other great series out there, and as a book lover, it is hard to choose just a few!
Go link up with Courtney, & this super fun linky!
Hope you enjoy these, and perhaps will add a few to your classroom library.
Remember, if you can read, you can do anything!

LOVE these...remember the movie, How To Train A Dragon?
Here's the book series..yep. Series!!
I've never met a kid who didn't like one of these adventure books:
I LOVE him, the kids LOVE him, seriously, each kid plows through my basket of Mr. Putter's!
They are a nightly pick, for home reader's choice!

My Second Sense
I fell in love with these books when my 17 year old started kindergarten!
DeleteDid you know Chick-fil-A has the Franklin books in their kid's meals right now? Keagan now has one! I need to check out this linky.
ReplyDeleteDon't Let the Teacher Stay Up Late
Thanks a million, I did NOT know this, and will be heading to that great place!
DeleteHi Amy! I found your blog through the giveaway at My Second Sense. I am a 2nd grade teacher from Ohio. Looking forward to following you!

Conversations in Literacy
Aw, don't you love teaching with great stories, especially when our own love them? It's so exciting to watch their love for learning!
DeleteThose are some great book suggestions! I'll have to look into the How to Train your Dragon series. I've been eying the set at Costco and I'm very tempted...
ReplyDeleteSimply Second
I didn't know Costco had them...thanks!! I'm going shopping!
DeleteLove your suggestions! Do you have some Fly Guy (or actually, almost anything Tedd Arnold) for your struggling readers?
ReplyDeleteLunch Lady is another fun graphic novel type series. Vocab may be a little high but the interest level is there as well.
Anything superhero. Or cartoon (like Scooby Doo?). Or (my fave) ... STAR WARS. There are some great beginning to intermediate readers out there.
Or Secrets of Droon. I'm always getting second grade boys who think they want Eragon or Lord of the Rings or something similar to try those. And then they are hooked.
I will be back! I would LOVE to be organized. I'm not. But I would love to be. :/
Plus anything with gross or unexplained or disgusting in the title.
Scooby has his own basket! The kids LOVE Scoob! You have several great choices as well, thanks!
